From forever chemicals to forever pans
My superhero pans that last a lifetime because "how we cook" matters.
Today, we're shifting gears. We usually talk about mental clarity and decision-making—but today, it’s about cookware. Stay with me—it’s still about clarity, just in a way you haven’t considered before.
The way we eat impacts the way we think. That’s not new. But what about the way we cook?
Chemicals used in non-stick coatings, known as "forever chemicals" stay in the body and environment for long periods. They are known to cause neurodegenerative diseases, ADHD in children, and an increased risk of death from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases in elderly populations.
So let’s do better.
Over the years, my husband and I have built a small but mighty collection of forever pans. These aren’t the ones you toss after a few years. These are for life. And because we take them so seriously, we’ve even named them after superheroes. 🦸🏻♀️ 🦸🏻 Why? Because good pans, like superheroes, have distinct powers. And yes, I am absolutely about to make cookware sound dramatic.
Here’s our lineup:
❶ Iron Man (Cast iron skillet)
Why cast iron?
Heavy-duty. Lasts generations. Gets better with age!
Once seasoned, it’s as non-stick as Teflon—without the toxins.
Why the name?
It’s made of iron. Obviously. But also, once properly seasoned, it’s practically indestructible, much like Tony Stark’s suits.
Also, prone to rust if neglected—just like Tony Stark’s emotional well-being.
How to maintain:
No soap, ever. Rinse, dry, and season it with oil.
Technically, you shouldn’t cook acidic food in it (tomatoes, vinegar), but mine has been through so many shakshukas that I think it’s developed immunity.

❷ Batman (Carbon steel)
Why carbon steel?
Heats up fast, cools down fast—perfect for temperature control.
Unlike cast iron, which retains heat forever, this one reacts instantly to changes.
Why the name?
Like Bruce Wayne, it bruises easily. Use anything acidic (like lemon or tomatoes), and it gets stripped down to nothing—just like Batman rebuilding himself after every setback. But season it properly, and it’s back in action.
How to maintain:
No soap. Just hot water, an iron scrub, and a thin layer of oil after drying.

❸ Wonder Woman (Stainless steel)
Why stainless steel?
Even heat distribution, no weird coatings, no toxins.
Tough, durable, and can handle anything from searing to simmering.
Why the name?
She’s sleek, she’s shiny, she’s incredibly strong. A true warrior in the kitchen.
Balances strength with elegance—just like Diana Prince.
How to maintain:
Unlike the others, this one loves soap and water. Just don’t go at it with steel wool.

4. Green Arrow (Cast iron Dutch oven)
Why a Dutch oven?
It’s versatile. You can bake bread in it, slow-cook stews, or use it on an open fire.
Holds heat forever and distributes it evenly.
Why the name?
It’s green (ours is literally green).
Like Oliver Queen, it’s reliable, rugged, and great in survival situations.
How to maintain:
Mine is enameled so normal wash with soap and water.

5. Flash (Mini cast iron skillet)
Why a mini skillet?
It’s perfect for small meals or frying an egg.
Same benefits as Iron Man but more agile.
Why the name?
It’s red. And fast. ⚡️
Like Barry Allen, it’s small but mighty—packs a punch despite its size.
How to maintain:
Identical to Iron Man—season, oil, no soap.
Where to buy:
If you’ve never thought about your cookware beyond “does it work?”—I get it. But making intentional choices in your kitchen has ripple effects on your health, your energy, and yes, even your decision-making. If your brain feels foggy, maybe it’s not just your work or stress—it might be the toxins in your food, leaching in from that worn-out, non-stick pan.
